Sore throats: which honey to choose?

Sore throat is an inconvenience that can occur at any time. It can be the result of a direct attack by a virus or a symptom of another problem, such as allergies or a cold.

While not serious, it can be annoying to have an irritated throat!

It's important to drink otherwise you'll get dehydrated, but sometimes even drinking plain water when you've got a sore throat can be a trial. The choice of food is also limited, as you have to avoid overly spicy foods, certain drinks and, above all, don't chew! Not to mention the discomfort of a sore throat, especially when accompanied by a dry cough.

Sore throats suck!

Thankfully, honey exists and will come to relieve your sore throat.

However, you should probably know that there are as many varieties of honey as there are different flowers on our planet and although all honeys are beneficial to health, some are more effective than others depending on the desired effect.

Today, then, we're going to look at the different types of honey and how they can relieve you of those life-ruining sore throats!

Honey, so many benefits!

Honey has been celebrated since ancient times for its therapeutic properties beneficial to health. Today, thanks to a wealth of scientific research, we have proof that honey's virtues are infinite, thanks in particular to its properties:

  • antioxidant
  • antiseptic
  • anti-inflammatory
  • antimicrobial
  • anticancerous
  • antiviral
  • antifungals
  • antidiabetics
  • etc.

Honey is therefore unquestionably a food with countless benefits. And among these benefits of honey that we all know is the fact that it relieves almost immediately all sore throats, still it is necessary to choose the right honey!

Which honey for which symptom?

Not all honeys are the same, each has its own properties, but some are more effective than others. To find the right honey to relieve your sore throat, we've made a selection of honeys and hive products you can use depending on your discomfort.

Fir honey

Fir honey is effective for relieving throat irritations, coughs and bronchitis, thanks to its healing properties. Fir honey is high in vitamin C, making it an antioxidant with antibacterial and antiviral properties. It also contains pinosylvin, making it an excellent mucolytic. Its high mineral and trace element content (potassium, calcium, magnesium) also makes it an effective remineralizing dietary supplement.

Just pop a teaspoon into your mouth and hold for around 10 minutes before swallowing for maximum effect. If you don't like the taste of pure fir honey, spread it on buttered bread for easier consumption.

Eucalyptus honey

Eucalyptus honey contains numerous phytochemical compounds that boost your immune system and fight infection. As well as having antiviral properties, this honey can kill the bacteria that cause colds and flu. It is also known for its expectorant properties. So it'll help you get rid of any mucus that might build up in your bronchial tubes.

Thyme honey

Thyme honey is one of the richest honeys in essential oil. Thyme essential oil has antiseptic and mucolytic virtues, i.e. it promotes the evacuation of secretions. As a result, thyme honey is particularly recommended for sore throats, acute respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, flu or bronchiolitis). It also helps treat laryngitis while strengthening the vocal cords.

Propolis

Propolis is a resinous substance produced by bees to seal the hive walls. This hive product contains plant resins and balsams, flavonoids, aromatic chemicals and essential oils, waxes, gums and pollens. These compounds give propolis numerous properties: antibiotic (bacteriostatic or bactericidal), fungicidal, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, regenerative and analgesic. So using, for example, a propolis spray can be effective for relieving all cases of sore and inflamed throats, whether bacterial or viral infections.

Say goodbye to sore throats

Now that you know which honey to choose for your sore throat, all that's left is to enjoy this incredible nectar from the bees:

  • Naturally: one to two spoonfuls of honey, once or twice a day.
  • Diluted in hot water: simply pour a tablespoon of honey into a cup of hot water. Stir well and drink this mixture as often as possible, to soothe your throat. (You can also add a little lemon and cinnamon, a little grandma's remedy!)
  • In tea or coffee with honey: dip a teaspoon of honey into a cup of tea or coffee, then sip it while it's still hot.

Important information:
